City Council Committees

Committee meetings are held the 4th Monday of each month
 
5:30 pm at City Hall, Council Chambers

Committees are called in the following order:

Public Works Committee
The Public Works Committee is responsible to address items pertaining to the Public Works Department i.e. Streets & Drainage Division, Water Maintenance Division, Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Code Enforcement Office. Examples of specific items include the following:
Street maintenance (patching, etc.), snow removal, ditches, fallen trees,
banners, storm drains,parades (barricades), street signs, water lines
(breaks, leaks),water towers, sanitary sewers (sewage back-up), manholes,
lift stations,sewer plant problems, uninhabitable structures, property
maintenance (high grass, trash in yard), general violations.

Budget & Finance Committee
The Budget & Finance Committee is responsible to address items pertaining to the Budget in addition to any additional financial matters that need to be addressed. Examples of specific items include the following.
Expenditures not addressed in the approved budget, bank account issues,
ordinance changes relating to revenue items, surplus property.

Public ImprovementCommittee
The Public Improvement Committee is responsible to address items pertaining to the improvement of our City, Examples of specific items inslude the following:
Information presented by the Zoning Board of Appeals, Planning and Zoning
Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Downtown tree program,
City Clean-Up, demolition program.

Building & Grounds Committee
The Building & Grounds Committee is responsible to address items pertaining to City-owned buildings and properties. Examples of specific items include the following:
Maintenance of any City-owned building or property i.e. Public Works
Department and storage building, City Hall and accessory buildings,
Waste Water Treatment Plant, Murphysboro Youth and Recreation Center.

Public Safety Committee
The Public Safety Committee is responsible to address items pertaining to the safety of our City as well as the Public Safety Department i.e. Police Department and Fire Department. Examples of specific items include the following:
Ordinance issues/changes relating to the Police and Fire Departments, vehicular
issues, parking issues (no parking, limited parking, etc.)

Personnel Committee
The personnel Committee is responsible to address items pertaining to our City Staff. Examples of specific items include the following:
Contract related issues, policy issues, and other rules and regulations.

Community Relations Committee
The Community Relations Committee is responsible to address items pertaining to our community. Examples of specific items include the following:
Community events, promotions, items addressed by the Tourism Commission.
